A man who created a media empire because he was unable to pronounce his own name as a toddler seems a little ridiculous. Unable to pronounce the r in Jari, young Jari Linnonmaa began referring to himself as Jaajo instead. The moniker endured. It can be found on business cards, movie credits, and the lips of millions of Finnish radio listeners who tune in every morning to hear him joke around before their first cup of coffee. That type of genesis narrative reveals something about the man he makes mistakes that, for some reason, turn out beautifully.
Although it’s difficult to pinpoint a precise figure for someone like Jaajo Linnonmaa, his net worth is thought to be approximately $5 million. He doesn’t have a single reliable source of income. A carbonation device firm, radio contracts, television hosting positions, film royalties, restaurant ownership, obstacle race events, horse racing cruises, and whatever else that has piqued his entrepreneurial interest in a particular year are just a few examples. According to recent Finnish public tax data, his confirmed yearly income, which is divided between earned income and capital gains, is approximately β¬150,000. However, a large portion of his fortune appears to be invested in ownership shares in at least nine separate companies, so those numbers most likely understate the whole story.

Radio was the basis of it all. Starting in 2006 Linnonmaa and Anni Hautala co hosted the Radio Suomipop breakfast program Aamulypsy. They made it one of Finland’s most popular programs over the course of sixteen years. At the Finnish Radio Gala the program won multiple times and Linnonmaa won Radio Personality of the Year eleven times. Eleven. That is a dynasty not a career. It felt more like a graduation than a retirement when he eventually left Aamulypsy in December 2022. Everyone wanted to know what he would do with all those extra morning hours not if he would be missed.
Naturally he continued to build. According to Linnonmaa’s business portfolio he accepts every intriguing concept that is presented to him over dinner. He and Markus Lassalle co founded My Soda a home carbonation business marketed as a Finnish substitute for SodaStream in 2013. The timing was perfect as worries about sustainability grew My Soda put a lot of effort into using eco friendly materials finally creating gadgets made of wood based bio composite.
Both an if Gold Award and a Red Dot Design Award were given to the company’s Woody model. The German cleaning behemoth Karcher then became a significant investor providing My Soda with the means to grow throughout Europe. According to Finnish business papers Linnonmaa once owned about 7.6% of the company. Although the precise value of MySoda isn’t made public it’s probable that share alone makes up a sizeable portion of his wealth.
And there’s the restaurant industry. After dining at Bricco an Italian wine bar on Annankatu in Helsinki in 2019 Linnonmaa made the decision to purchase a majority ownership. This type of decision making indicates either extreme impulsivity or extreme confidence or perhaps both. Since then the eatery has grown to Turku.
More recently in the summer of 2025 he introduced Superterassi an expansive open terrace idea on Helsinki’s Kasarmitori square with pop up food vendors serving everything from Finnish salmon potato dishes to Greek souvlaki. The site allegedly drew 130000 people in its first two and a half weeks despite a chilly wet start to the summer. Such numbers imply that Linnonmaa’s name alone has an allure that most Finnish restaurateurs can only imagine.
In contrast his cinematic career has been less of a deliberate decision and more of a fortunate accident. Although he had a minor part in the medical drama Syke in 2014 it was the comedy trilogy Luokkakokous Class Reunion that made him a household figure at the box office. The movies which starred Sami Hedberg and Aku Hirviniemi together were huge hits in Finland.
They are broad silly comedies about mature men acting horribly so they aren’t very cerebral but they resonated with viewers in a way that more polished Finnish movies frequently don’t. Linnonmaa portrayed the common man a role he practically plays everywhere. He began hosting the Finnish version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Haluatko miljonaariksi? on television. Later he became the host of the Finnish version of The Apprentice Diili. His public image grew with each gig and he probably earned more money as well.
It’s important to note that things haven’t always gone well. A β¬1.6 million defamation case was filed against Linnonmaa and his co host of Aamulypsy Juha Perala in 2014. Jarmo Viljanen a shoe businessman who had lost a trademark battle with Adidas over shoes with four slanted stripes claimed the radio DJs had hurt his reputation by making fun of his predicament on the air. After a protracted legal battle the Helsinki Court of Appeal decided in Linnonmaa’s favor in 2019 concluding that the remarks were lighthearted humor appropriate for the entertainment format of the performance.
Viljanen was mandated to cover the hosts’ legal expenses. It’s the kind of legal drama that may have been costly and distracting but Linnonmaa came out on top. However Linnonmaa has admitted a tension that makes his financial situation truly intriguing. He reportedly stated in an open podcast interview on Aikalisa that he had roughly β¬5000 in his checking account and β¬50000 in savings adding that although he had made millions during his career that money was not in a bank account.
It is evident that his fortune is invested and locked into businesses and endeavors rather than being liquid. When most people hear the phrase net worth of $5 million they picture a quite different form of wealth. It’s the differential between cash on hand and wealth on paper and Linnonmaa appears to be well aware of it.
According to reports his own business Jaajo Oy recorded a slight loss in 2024 and only brought in roughly β¬9000. That may seem insignificant but when you consider that it’s probably just one car among several the true value is found in his stock holdings in MySoda Bricco Superterassi ExtremeRun and other companies. Parts of the story are revealed by Finland’s public tax records but never the complete picture. Somewhere in Helsinki there’s always another project another endeavor another thought scribbled on a napkin at a dinner table.
In Finnish public life 47 year old Jaajo Linnonmaa holds an odd but desirable position. He is well known enough to bring 130000 people to a food court outside. He has enough money to co found businesses that draw in foreign capital. He also jokes about having β¬5000 in his bank account because he is self aware. Depending on how his many bets turn out his net worth might be as little as $5 million or as much as $5 million. However one thing is evident the child who was unable to pronounce his own name has performed amazingly well with the one he came up with.
